Geely Galaxy E8 Electric Sedan: The Next Biggest Threat to Tesla and BYD?

Geely has unveiled its latest electric sedan, the Galaxy E8, ahead of its pre-sales launch on November 17 at the Guangzhou Auto Show.

Crafted on Geely’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, the Galaxy E8 stands at 5,010mm in length, 1,920mm in width, and 1,465mm in height, with a wheelbase stretching 2,925mm. To draw a comparison, the Tesla Model S measures 4,978mm in length, 1,964mm in width, 1,445mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,960mm. The Galaxy E8 presents a sleek build, boasting a drag coefficient of merely 0.199, whereas the Model S clocks in at 0.208.

At the front, the car showcases sharp headlights and DRLs, foregoing the traditional grille. Its sides feature a streamlined, uncluttered design, complete with pop-out door handles. Despite achieving a low drag coefficient, Geely chose to use traditional wing mirrors instead of door-mounted rear-facing cameras.

The rear design is characterized by an LED light bar and intricately designed taillights. Inside, drivers can enjoy an 8K resolution 45-inch display spanning the dashboard, alongside a flat-bottom, flat-top steering wheel, a minimalist center console housing buttons and a round dial, a wireless charging pad, and a panoramic sunroof.

The Galaxy E8 offers two 400-volt variants: one equipped with a 62kWh LFP battery, a 272hp rear electric motor, and a range of 550km; and another featuring a larger 76kWh battery pack, delivering 665km of range. Additionally, there's an 800-volt version boasting a 224hp front motor, a 421hp rear motor, a 76kWh pack, and a range of 665km.

Pre-sales for this model are set to commence this month, with manufacturing starting in the first quarter of 2024 and deliveries expected to kick off in the second quarter.
