Did you know? Car insurance claims on expressways are not allowed!

If an accident occurs on the expressway, insurance officers cannot come to clear the scene on the expressway because the expressway is a high-speed road, and insurance officers usually ride motorcycles to various accident locations, so they cannot ride onto the expressway.
For vehicle owners with car insurance, they may feel reassured when driving because in the event of any accident, they can simply call their insurance company to come and assist at the accident location.
However, if an accident occurs on the expressway, insurance officers cannot go up to the expressway to process insurance claims.
The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) does not permit insurance officers to conduct any insurance claim-related activities on the expressway. This is because expressways are designated roads where high speeds are required by law. Attempting to process insurance claims on the expressway may increase the risk of accidents. Furthermore, insurance officers primarily use motorcycles for their work, making it impractical for them to ride onto expressways. Violating these regulations may result in a fine of no more than 1,000 baht.
If an accident occurs on the expressway, here's what you should do:
- Try to move your vehicle to the side pavement to avoid blocking traffic. However, if your vehicle is heavily damaged and cannot be driven further, notify expressway authorities to tow your vehicle away from the area.
- Turn on your hazard lights to alert other drivers of the unusual situation and try to divert traffic to other lanes.
- Contact emergency hotlines and inform your car insurance company for assistance.
- Take photos of the accident scene to gather as much evidence as possible, including the other party's identification card, to prevent hit-and-run incidents.
- Arrange to meet with the other party involved and insurance representatives at a safe, nearby location which is off the expressway.
Emergency numbers to save:
- 1543: Expressway Authority (EXAT)
- 1586: Highway and Motorway Police
- 1233: Tollway Call Center
- 1193: Highway Police
