Before renewing vehicle tax or vehicle registration, it is necessary to have the vehicle inspected by the Department of Land Transport. However, is the inspection process by the Private Vehicle Inspection Centre (Tor Ror Or) similar to inspections conducted elsewhere?
Tor Ror Or is a Private Vehicle Inspection Centre. In cases where it is not convenient to bring the vehicle for inspection at the Department of Land Transport, the Tor Ror Or vehicle inspection is conducted solely to renew the annual tax.
Vehicles that must undergo vehicle inspections:
- Personal passenger cars with no more than 7 seats - aged 7 years or older
- Personal passenger cars with more than 7 seats - aged 7 years or older
- Personal passenger trucks - aged 7 years or older
- Motorcycles - aged 5 years or older
Types of vehicles that cannot undergo a private vehicle inspection:
- Cars with a curb weight exceeding 1,600 kilograms
- Government vehicles, diplomatic corps vehicles, vehicles of consular representatives, international organisation vehicles, etc.
- Vehicles that have been modified, repainted, engine swapped, vehicles with issues related to vehicle identification numbers or engine numbers, and vehicles with registrations expired for more than 1 year.
Inspection fees:
- Motorcycles: 60 Baht
- Cars with a curb weight not exceeding 1,600 kilograms: 150 Baht
- Cars with a curb weight exceeding 1,600 kilograms: 250 Baht
The documents required for a private vehicle inspection:
The private vehicle inspection only requires the vehicle registration book as a document. With just the registration book, you can bring your vehicle in for inspection. Once the inspection is completed, you will receive a certificate of vehicle inspection according to the format specified by the Department of Land Transport. You can then use this certificate to renew your vehicle tax. However, please note that this certificate is only valid for 3 months.
If your vehicle fails its Tor Ror Or vehicle inspection, you need to follow these steps:
- Address any identified defects as notified by the authorities.
- Return for re-inspection at the same inspection centre within 15 days. You'll only be charged half of the service fee for this re-inspection.
- If the re-inspection is conducted after 15 days or at a different inspection centre, the full service fee will apply.
Ensure that all identified issues are rectified before the re-inspection to increase the likelihood of passing.
The private vehicle inspection (Tor Ror Or) is a relatively detailed inspection of the vehicle. If your vehicle is nearing its tax renewal date, it's advisable to proceed with the inspection before the deadline. This ensures that if the vehicle fails the inspection, you'll have time to make any necessary repairs before the deadline.
