One of the problems faced by electric vehicle (EV) users is the high cost of batteries. When an issue arises, the expenses can be so high that it almost justifies buying a new car. Additionally, most car insurance policies do not fully cover the cost of replacing the entire battery (excluding other repair costs). This is why insurance premiums for electric vehicles tend to be higher than those for regular cars.

BYD BNT Mobility has announced that the price of the Blade Battery used in all electric vehicle models sold in Thailand will be adjusted down from the previous price as follows (updated on June 11, 2024).

BYD Dolphin

  • STANDARD model 44.9 kWh priced at 309,364.49 THB
  • EXTENDED model 60.48 kWh priced at 378,102.80 THB

BYD Atto 3

  • DYNAMIC/PREMIUM model 50.25 kWh priced at 344,691.59 THB
  • STANDARD model 49.92 kWh priced at 320,121.50 THB (previous price 528,730 THB)
  • EXTENDED model 60.48 kWh priced at 378,102.80 THB (previous price 656,030 THB)

BYD Seal

  • DYNAMIC model 61.44 kWh priced at 451,289.72 THB
  • PREMIUM model 82.56 kWh priced at 534,728.97 THB
  • AWD Performance model 82.56 kWh priced at 536,411.21 THB

This represents a price reduction of over 40% for batteries. With such a decrease in the cost of EV batteries, it's possible that the production costs for electric vehicles will also decrease in the future. This could lead to lower selling prices and insurance premiums for EVs as well. We will have to wait and see how this develops.
