Ever wondered how much fuel your car consumes? Today, Motorist is sharing a formula to calculate fuel consumption so you can estimate your own fuel expenses.

If you want to know how much fuel your car uses, focus on its fuel consumption rate. This rate indicates how much fuel each car consumes and helps you determine whether your vehicle is fuel-efficient or not. Here's how you can easily calculate it:

Steps:
  • Fill up the tank until the pump stops automatically.
  • Reset the trip odometer to zero after filling up and before starting your journey.
  • Drive as usual.
  • Then, calculate as follows:
Fuel consumption rate (km/l) = Distance traveled (km) / Amount of fuel used (liters).

For example: If you traveled 300 kilometers and used 20 liters of fuel, and the fuel price is 32 baht per liter:

  • 300 kilometers / 20 liters = 15 kilometers per liter.

This means your fuel consumption rate is 15 kilometers per liter.

How to Calculate Fuel Costs:

To find out how much you'll spend on fuel, use the following formula:

  • Distance (kilometers) / Fuel consumption rate (km/l) = Amount of fuel used (liters).
  • For example: (300 kilometers) / (15 kilometers per liter) = 20 liters.

Then, multiply the current fuel price by the amount of fuel used to estimate the cost of your trip.

For example: 35 baht per liter x 20 liters = 700 baht for the trip.

Knowing your car's fuel consumption rate allows you to estimate your fuel costs and helps you plan your trips better. However, keep in mind that this is only an estimate and cannot measure fuel consumption with 100% accuracy, as other factors can affect how much fuel your car uses.
