BYD to Launch YangWang U7 with Second-Generation Blade Battery

Recent reports reveal that BYD is preparing to launch the YangWang U7, a high-end electric sedan that will come with the second-generation Blade Battery. This new battery is rumored to offer a charging rate of 5.5C and a discharge rate of 14C, with an official release expected soon.

The YangWang U7 also features an upgraded suspension system using DiSus-Z technology, which allows for suspension adjustments within 10 milliseconds, replacing traditional hydraulic shock absorbers. Additionally, the system regenerates power back to the battery, improving energy efficiency.

The YangWang U7 made its debut at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show, showcasing a length of 5,265 mm, a width of 1,998 mm, and a height of 1,517 mm, with a wheelbase of 3,160 mm. Despite its weight of 3,095 kg, it achieves a top speed of 270 km/h and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The car’s low drag coefficient of 0.195 enhances its aerodynamics.

The YangWang U7 uses four electric motors with a combined power output of 1,306 horsepower, delivering a maximum driving range of 800 km, thanks to the 135.5 kWh second-generation Blade Battery. This new battery model builds on the success of the first-generation Blade Battery, introduced in 2020, which increased the energy density and efficiency of lithium-ion phosphate batteries to compete with NMC batteries.

While the first-generation Blade Battery had an energy density of 150 Wh/kg, the second generation is expected to increase this to at least 190 Wh/kg, extending the electric vehicle's driving range and enabling it to compete more effectively in the lithium-ion battery market, where it has a cost advantage.

It remains to be seen when the second-generation Blade Battery will officially debut with the YangWang U7 and what the full specifications will reveal about its maximum driving range.
