Nowadays, wrapping the car or applying stickers all around the car is very popular among car lovers because it is a convenient and quick way to change the look of the car without having to permanently repaint it. It also helps protect the original paint from scratches and the environment. However, many people wonder if wrapping the entire car is illegal and what steps must be taken to avoid problems with the law later.
Laws on Changing Car Colors in Thailand
According to Thai law, the Motor Vehicle Act of 1979 states that if a car owner changes the color of the entire car or changes the color of more than 30% of the car, they must notify the Department of Land Transport within 7 days from the date of the change. Failure to do so may result in a fine of up to 2,000 baht.
Steps to report a car color change
- Prepare the necessary documents
- Car registration book (car registration manual)
- Car owner's ID card
- Evidence of color change, such as a receipt from a Wrap shop or a photo of the car that has been changed
- Contact the transport office
- Take the car with the prepared documents to the transport office in the area where the car is registered to report a change in car color
- Check and receive approval
- The officer will check the accuracy of the information and update the car registration book. If there are no problems, the car will be officially recorded in the new color.
