One of the most unexpected situations that no one wants to encounter is “brake failure”

Which can lead to serious danger if you are not mindful and handle it properly. In this article, Motorist will tell you about how to safely handle such an incident for you!

1. Stay Calm

If you realize your brakes have failed, try not to panic. Take a deep breath and focus on assessing the situation.

2. Slow Down the Car
  • Use Engine Braking: If driving a manual car, shift to a lower gear to reduce speed. For automatic cars, switch to the L or S gear.
  • Use the Handbrake Carefully: Gradually pull the handbrake; do not pull it too hard or too quickly, as this could cause the car to lose control.
3. Turn on Hazard Lights

Turn on your hazard lights immediately to warn other drivers about your situation and avoid collisions.

4. Look for a Safe Spot to Stop

Try to find a clear area or a less busy road, such as a shoulder or flat surface, to bring the car to a safe stop.

5. Use Obstacles to Reduce Speed (if necessary)

If stopping the car isn’t possible, use harmless obstacles like bushes or roadside barriers to help reduce speed.

6. Avoid Repeatedly Pressing the Brake

Pressing the brake repeatedly after it has failed may worsen the damage to the braking system.

7. Call for Help

Once the car is safely stopped, call the police or rescue services immediately and wait for assistance.

Staying calm and knowing how to handle this emergency is the key to staying safe!
