Drunk driving is a social problem that cannot be solved no matter how hard you try. It affects road safety, not only for yourself, but also risks the lives and property of others.

Drunk driving is punishable by imprisonment not exceeding 1 year, a fine of 5,000 - 20,000 baht, or both, and a suspension of the driver’s license for more than 6 months.

How drunk is drunk driving?

Blood alcohol content 50 milligrams percent

    • Imprisonment not exceeding 1 year, a fine of 5,000 - 20,000 baht, or both, and a suspension of the driver’s license for not less than 6 months.

Blood alcohol content 20 milligrams percent

    • If the driver is under 20 years old or has a temporary driver’s license, he/she will be considered only drunk.
Refusal to Sobriety Test

Refusal to sobriety test is considered an admission of drunk driving immediately, punishable by imprisonment not exceeding 1 year, a fine of 5,000 - 20,000 baht, and a suspension of the driver’s license for not less than 6 months. The court can order a suspension of the driver’s license and revoke the driver’s license.

Drunk driving causing injury or death to others

Drunk driving causing injury to others

    • Imprisonment from 1 - 5 years, fine from 20,000 - 100,000 baht, and suspension of driving license for not less than 6 months or revocation of driving license

Drunk driving causing serious injury to others

    • Imprisonment from 2 - 6 years, fine from 40,000 - 120,000 baht, suspension of driving license for not less than 2 years

Drunk driving causing death to others

    • Imprisonment from 3 - 10 years, fine from 60,000 - 200,000 baht, and immediate revocation of driving license
