Ever been on a GPS-guided drive, only to realize it’s leading you to a toll road and you’re out of cash?
Don’t panic—there are solutions! From paying later to using credit cards, here’s how you can handle the situation with ease.
No Cash for the Toll? Here’s What to Do
- Notify the Toll Booth Staff
If you don’t have cash, let the toll booth staff know. They will record your vehicle details (license plate, color, and model) and allow you to pay later within 7 days. - Pay via Mobile Apps
You can also pay the toll later using apps like:- M-Pass
- Easy Pass
- Tollway Plus
Download the app, register your car, and inform the staff at the toll booth that you’ll pay through the app.
- Visit a Service Center
Alternatively, visit the toll road service center to make your payment in person.

Can You Use Credit or Debit Cards for Tolls?
Good news! Some toll booths now accept contactless payments via credit or debit cards. Supported toll roads include:
- Chalerm Mahanakorn Expressway
- Si Rat Expressway
- Si Rat-Outer Ring Road Expressway
- Udon Ratthaya Expressway
- Kanchanaphisek Expressway
Simply enter the cash lane with a Visa or Mastercard logo, tap your contactless card on the machine, and you’re good to go! Unfortunately, scanning to pay isn’t available yet.
What Happens If You Don’t Pay Within 7 Days?
If you fail to pay within 7 days, a reminder letter will be sent to your home. You’ll then have 30 days to settle the payment. Ignoring this can lead to fines:
- EXAT Toll Roads: Fine of 2,000 THB
- Motorways (under Department of Highways): Fine up to 10 times the toll fee
- Don Mueang Tollway: Fine up to 10 times the toll fee
For those who haven’t signed up for M-Pass or M-Flow, it’s a good idea to keep some cash on hand. That way, if you unexpectedly encounter a toll road, you can pay the toll smoothly without any hassle.
