Many people have heard the terms Sunroof and Moonroof, but may not be sure how they differ. In this article, Motorist will explain their meanings and key features for you.

What is a Sunroof?

A Sunroof is a panel on a car’s roof that can be opened or removed to allow sunlight and fresh air inside. It is usually made of metal or opaque glass and can be slid open, tilted, or taken out completely, depending on the design.

What is a Moonroof?

A Moonroof is a type of Sunroof but differs in that it is typically made of tinted or transparent glass. It usually comes with an interior sunshade or sliding panel to block light when needed. Unlike a traditional Sunroof, a Moonroof is fixed in place and cannot be removed, but it can slide open or tilt to allow ventilation.

While a Moonroof is technically a type of Sunroof, modern vehicles more commonly use Moonroofs because they provide a more open and airy feel by allowing natural light inside, even when closed. If you prefer a brighter cabin, a Moonroof may be the better choice. However, if you want complete shade and privacy, a traditional Sunroof might be more suitable.
