What is battery reconditioning?

Battery reconditioning refers to a process that helps restore a deteriorated battery to work better using chemical and electrical principles. There are 2 main methods:

  • Chemical reconditioning - Adding special chemicals to the battery to remove sulfate deposits that accumulate on the plates, allowing the battery to store more charge.
  • Electrical reconditioning - Using a special charger that stimulates chemical reactions in the battery to increase its efficiency in storing charge.
Does battery reconditioning really work?

Battery reconditioning can help extend the lifespan of a battery in some cases, especially in cases where the battery has deteriorated due to improper use or being left for a long time. However, if the battery is damaged by other causes, such as cracked or leaking plates, reconditioning will not be effective.

Battery reconditioning can be more expensive than replacing a new battery, especially if you have to buy your own reconditioning equipment. Although reconditioning can extend the lifespan, reconditioned batteries tend to have a shorter lifespan than new ones.
