Rimac Automobili, one of the world's leading developers of electric vehicle and hypercar technology, has unveiled a prototype of its autonomous Robotaxi under a new company named Verne. Rimac Automobili has unveiled a prototype of its autonomous Robotaxi under a new company named Verne. Rimac plans to start offering this vehicle in Zagreb, Croatia, where the company was founded, by 2026. Following this, the service will expand to 11 cities in the United Kingdom, Germany, other European cities, the Middle East, and at least 30 other cities worldwide that are currently in negotiations with Verne to introduce autonomous taxi services or Ridesharing businesses.

Rimac plans to begin offering this Robotaxi service in Zagreb, Croatia, where the company was founded, by 2026. Following this, the service will expand to 11 cities in the United Kingdom, Germany, other European cities, the Middle East, and at least 30 other cities worldwide that are in negotiations with Verne to introduce autonomous taxi or Ridesharing services. This expansion responds to the increasing consumer demand for convenient and safe transportation services.

Verne is a new company founded by Mate Rimac, the founder and CEO of Rimac Automobili, along with two colleagues from Rimac: Adriano Mudri, the designer of the electric hypercar Rimac Nevera, and Marko Pejković, the Chief Strategy Officer of Rimac Automobili and a member of the supervisory board of the Bugatti Rimac joint venture. Pejković will serve as the CEO of Verne. The combination of these experts strengthens Verne and positions it for success.

The name Verne is inspired by the famous science fiction writer Jules Verne, known for his timeless novels such as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea," "Journey to the Center of the Earth," and "Around the World in 80 Days." This name choice reflects the company's vision and commitment to presenting advanced technology and world-changing innovation.

Verne's Robotaxi design differs from other companies in the market. Verne's vehicle is a two-seater coupe with a sloped front and a flat rear, featuring a futuristic look. It is designed as a driverless car without a steering wheel from the start, unlike other companies that modify production cars, such as Waymo, which uses the Chrysler Pacifica or Jaguar I-Pace, and Cruise Automation, which uses the Chevrolet Bolt. The design emphasizes passenger comfort and safety, making Verne unique and distinctive.

Rimac intentionally designed this model with only two seats from the project's inception, based on research indicating that 9 out of 10 taxi users have only one or two passengers. The service can be easily summoned through the Verne application, allowing users to control the cabin environment in advance before the car arrives, such as lighting conditions, temperature, or cabin fragrance, all from a smartphone.

The cabin features sliding doors, a panoramic sunroof, and space comparable to a Rolls-Royce. The seats are designed to feel like relaxing in a moving living room, with a 43-inch screen, 17 speakers around the cabin, a touchpad for setting and controlling in-car devices, and a ‘Median’ function that allows users to start or stop the car if desired.

Rimac has not yet disclosed details about Verne's electric drivetrain but has provided preliminary information that Verne is developed on a highly flexible platform that can be resized according to the service area's needs in the future. The autonomous driving system uses Mobileye technology, comprising cameras, radars, LiDAR, and various sensors that can be tuned to fit the traffic conditions of each service area.

The launch of Verne represents an exciting new step for Rimac Automobili in introducing advanced technology and world-changing innovation. By bringing together a team of experts and focusing on passenger comfort and safety in design, Verne stands out as unique and poised for success in the global autonomous vehicle and Ridesharing market.
